In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, this session will examine the role that California archives have played in saving, preserving, and sharing LGBTQ histories.  California is home to some of the largest and longest-running LGBTQ archives in the country.  From activist-archivists to representatives from university special collections, independent non-profits, and public libraries, the panelists in this session come from a variety of institutions. They will share their strategies on topics such as collaboration, community outreach, collection development, digitization, and access. By examining their respective archives, the panelists will consider the development of their organizations and discuss how they negotiate the evolving nature of their communities and audiences.
