In the entertainment industry, information professionals face both limitations in external and internal collaboration to create meaningful standards. The proprietary nature of intellectual property rights puts constraints on cross-studio standards development. Information professionals within large studios can be further hindered by being siloed in departments across the company. The lack of collaboration can lead to duplication of standards, taxonomies, and other methodologies. Some companies have multiple internal versions of schemas for the same field.

A desire to establish a standardization is needed especially in the entertainment industries due to the variety of digital formats that are used in everyday workflow and the ever-growing volume of born digital assets. Information professionals from the Walt Disney Company, Lionsgate, and 20th Century Fox will discuss the challenges and limitations they face as information professionals working with born digital materials in the entertainment industry.
